When I moved to Glasgow in 2006, I didn’t even know what dance music was, all I knew was the crap I’d heard on day time radio and although I’d always loved music, nothing quite prepared me for what I was about discover in the spicy city of Glasgow. For a year or so I would find myself going to crappy clubs that played music I wasn’t really that into, full of people either wanting to get your number or start a fight. This all changed when I was introduced to the Sub Club in 2007. I went down to Subculture on the Saturday night and felt myself saying, “Ohhh my god... What is this place?? What is this music??” Someone replied, “This, Krysia, is House music...” Everyone bouncing about with only one thing in mind - to have a hassle-free fun time dancing, immersing themselves in the music. And this is where the love affair began. After this I started going to more nights in the Sub Club and around Glasgow – things like Pressure at the Arches where I discovered Techno, and Sunday Circus, originally held at The Courtyard. We would meet up in the quirkiest wee places, the tunes would go on and that would be it – dancing and smiling for hours and hours, days and days.
It is now 2011 and I couldn’t tell you how many dance events me and my friends have been to over the years, pretty much every weekend in Glasgow I’ll go somewhere, and have also ventured further afield for various nights and festivals – London, Timewarp in Germany and then went on to spend a few months in Ibiza where DC10 was pretty much my second home. I’ve shared so many amazing nights with some of the most interesting characters I’ve ever met, and I feel like it’s such a shame that some of these might go forgotten in years to come. This is where this blog comes in... From now on I’m going to be sharing our experiences online via my very first music blog. If I’ve got videos/pictures from the parties these will all be going up, along with a sort of mini narrative of what I can remember from our nights. It will include all the ridiculous chat we have, I’ll talk about how the music felt, basically anything worthwhile remembering will be noted down here, and I’ll link you all up every time a new post goes up so you can leave comments or whatever, or link us up to other pictures/videos from the night. I thought this would be a good thing to start given the line ups we already know about for this year in Glasgow alone... Me and my friends (and about half of Glasgow yasss!) are also making trips to Berlin, Sonar and Ibiza, so there will be a whole variety of everything house and techno and you know what??? I CAN’T FUCKING WAIT!! Let’s dance....
a lot harder than i thought this blogging malark, but hey ho away we go....
